Standard Deviation

Calculation

The standard deviation is calculated as the square root of the average of the squares of deviations around the mean.

  1. Calculate the mean.
  2. Calculate each member’s deviation (the difference between the mean and each member’s value)
  3. Calculate the average variance: Square each member’s deviation, and average them.
  4. Take the square root of the average variance, and you have the standard deviation.
